ON A MISSION

To open doors that otherwise might remain closed.

OUR JOURNEY
empowering voices through drama
The Other Door was born out of a response to a growing need for creative, inclusive approaches to learning and personal growth. We started our theatre company because we could see too many people being left behind by traditional paths to learning. In schools, young people who learned differently were often disengaged from texts that felt remote and inaccessible. We saw how many students were struggling to connect with the texts that shape their education. In prisons we saw a hunger for spaces where people could reflect, connect, and explore new possibilities. Many people in prison were searching for new ways to express themselves and imagine different futures. We knew that drama offered a unique answer — a way to unlock understanding, nurture confidence, and give voice to those who are so often unheard. Drama offers a powerful tool to bring stories to life, to build confidence, communication, and emotional connection.
What began as a passion to make learning more human has grown into a powerful movement in schools and prison communities, where stepping into a story can change the way we see ourselves. Our journey has always been about creating opportunities for transformation through creativity, and opening doors that might otherwise remained closed.
SCHOOL
Our school drama programmes bring English literature off the page and onto the stage. Using drama, we make set texts accessible, exciting and unforgettable. Every workshop helps students grow in confidence, communication, and understanding — whatever their starting point.

THEATRE IN PRISON PROJECT

Drama in the Secure Estate
In prisons, we use drama as a powerful tool for reflection and change. Our workshops create safe and supportive spaces where participants can share stories, build trust, and explore new perspectives through creativity and collaboration.
We deliver programmes across young offender institutions, women’s and men’s prisons, probation services, and approved premises, tailoring each project to the needs of the individuals and communities we serve.
For some, it is their first chance to experience the confidence of performing; for others, it is an opportunity to practise empathy, teamwork, and resilience in a constructive environment.
Whether in custody or on a pathway back into the community, each session helps participants to find their voice, strengthen their social and emotional skills, and imagine different futures. At The Other Door, theatre is more than art — it is a catalyst for personal growth and positive change.
